Business Overhead Expense Insurance

A business overhead expense policy covers certain business expenses while the insured owner is disabled. Coverage is available in addition to the insured owner’s disability income coverage. The insured owner’s salary, noncash expenses, new purchases and perhaps unusual expenses are excluded.

The elimination period is 30-90 days, but benefits may be retroactive. Benefit periods are 12-24 months.

The premiums are deductible and benefits are taxable as income.
